1. Machinery of SMC mold design
The mold designed by SMC mold usually involves a hydraulic press, with the upper and lower parts of the mold fixed on the press. A cavity core is included in the mold, which is the same as an injection mold. Placing the test material when the mold is unclosed, and then close the press, the predefined temperature and pressure generated by the press can make the raw material melt in the cavity of the mold.
2. Materials for SMC mold design
The SMC mold design applies a sheet-like thermoplastic material, which is usually used for large products requiring great strength. The BMC material is in the shape of a ball, always of short fibers, low shrinkage and is stable in color, while the GMT material is glass fiber thermoplastic, which can be applied in various parts of the car body, also, it can replace traditional metal parts and reduce weight as well as costs. Different from the injection molds, smc mold needs to be heated rather than cooled and the common heating methods are through steam, oil, electricity, and high-pressure water.
3.The temperature of SMC mold design
The temperature of SMC mold design is usually between 140℃ and 160℃. When designing the temperature system of the mold, attention should be paid to keeping the same temperature of the whole surface of the mold. The unification of temperature can reduce deformation, increase the stability of size and enhance the unity of product surface. Manufacturability evaluation mainly includes evaluation of mold design and manufacturing costs, evaluation of mold assemblability, evaluation of mold parts manufacturing processability, evaluation of mold structure and forming performance.
